The River "S" Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge has a 4.2 mile auto tour route and 1.5 mile seasonal hiking trail. The auto tour is an excellent way to see the Refuge. A pair of binoculars is a must and a camera makes it even more fun !!!
Spent a couple of hours just before sunset "closing down" the Refuge !!! ... just made it out the gate with 5 minutes to spare ... this past weekend was the "Bird Fest" and even at this late hour on Sunday the tourist traffic was heavy along the loop road. Mostly I just parked and waited for Sandhill Cranes to fly overhead. My last stopping location was hoping the Cranes would fly through the gorgeous sunset. They obliged.
