The River "S" Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge has a 4.2 mile auto tour route and 1.5 mile seasonal hiking trail. The auto tour is an excellent way to see the Refuge. A pair of binoculars is a must and a camera makes it even more fun !!!
Got up EARLY on August 27 and headed out to the Kiwa Trail bridge just on the chance of seeing the River Otters !!! ... BEAUTIFUL !!!!!! ... It was like being in the middle of a Walt Disney movie !!!!!!!
This trip includes ...
American Kestrel ... European Starling ... Great Blue Heron ... Great Egret and Great Blue Heron ... Greater Yellowlegs ... Mallard ... Turkey Vulture ... Raccoon ... River Otter ... "Butter and Eggs" (Yellow Toadflax) ... Common Tansy ... Teasel and Tansy Ragwort ...

Early morning August 27, a "family" of about 8 River Otters were feeding and playing just off the Kiwa Trail bridge over the slough. It was like being in the middle of a Walt Disney movie !!!
