"Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge" "American Bittern"

The River "S" Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge has a 4.2 mile auto tour route and 1.5 mile seasonal hiking trail. The auto tour is an excellent way to see the Refuge. A pair of binoculars is a must and a camera makes it even more fun !!! I first spotted a Bittern on the shore of Schwartz Lake in April. In September the Bitterns (and a Green Heron) liked to "frog" on the canal at the south side of Rest Lake. The following are images captured of the American Bittern, arranged monthly.
